Luna moth bodice and under-structures

I’m sure you all have been following the Luna moth dress and thinking that my progress has been agonisingly slow, and not particularly interesting to boot.

Under-structures may be absolutely essential and take forever to put together, but they just aren’t that exciting to look at.

Tomorrow I promise I will have progress that actually looks like something!

For now, I’ve been working on the bodice, sewing on the straps:

And ruching the shot silk taffeta, and tacking it to the bodice.

It gives a beautiful mini mono-bosom/pigeon breast effect.

I’ve finished the inside of the bodice with a piece of hand-dyed plum lace from Nana’s amazing stash.

I’ve sewn up the underskirt foundation (I know, more boring white under-structure – but at least it has a pretty shape!).

I’ve gone for a slightly slimmer line than Arnold’s dress, to match my inspiration dress. The line isn’t as slim as it could be (or as the inspiration dress probably is), because I need to be able to dance in it. Hobble skirts are look fab, but they don’t work if you intend to polka!

I’m a little worried now that the silhouette is far too A-line. Isabelle is so skinny around her bottom that things tend to look bulky on her. I should really try it on me. Maybe I need to get rid of the bottom piece, and have the hem be my fashion fabrics without any support underneath?

What do you think?

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
