The HSF: Challenge #4: Embellish

Decorations make the historical garment glorious. Whether you use embroidery, trim, pleating, lace, buttons, applique, quilting, jewels, or any other form of embellishment, this challenge is all about decorative detail.

When you are done, post a link to your photos or blog post in the comments, or in the event photo album on Facebook.

What am I embellishing?  Oh, goodness, I don’t know!  There are so many things I need to embellish!  The Pet, Ninon, Lady Anne Darcy could use more, the 1770s mans suit…the list goes on.  I guess I’ll just have to surprise us both!

I ended up doing a simple little ‘soft’ entry of a late ’20s hat,

Little bit of embellishment hat

and going full-out and fully embellishing my 1780s Indienne chintz pet-en-l’aire:

  3. As challenges go, mine has been a dismal failure, as I’m nowhere close to finishing it! Not for the first time in my sewing life, I’ve been wildly over-ambitious. I plan to keep working away at it though, and hopefully some time towards the end of the year there will be a UFO or other suitable challenge (please Leimomi?) in which I can show a completed, or at least closer to completed, dress.
