Its a French poster- they probably didn’t know how to spell the word correctly.
On a side note. America changed the way they spell after the war of 1812 with England. They wanted to seperate themselves from England as much as possible so Noah Webster decided we needed to start with the way we spell. He came up with a new speller (which is how children learned to read back in the day) and ever since we’ve spelt words differently from the English.
(When did we stop spelling ‘always’ with two Ls?)
