This week’s 1810s Rate the Dress is an interesting garment, from an interesting period in fashion history: the late 1810s played with so many fascinating design features. What will you make of it?
The dress is notable for featuring one of Lucile’s most famous touches: pulled up or slit skirts which revealed large expanses of [stockinged] legs. Lucile said “If I never did anything else in my life, I showed that a woman’s leg can be a thing of beauty, instead of a ‘limb,’ spoken of only in the privacy of a fitting room.”
I’ve got a real soft-spot for ca. 1880’s fashion. Of course, some examples of the era pull off the ridiculousness better than others. Will this week’s Rate the Dress tickle your fancy?
