Earthquake – We’re safe

Thank you everyone who has commented and messaged with kind thoughts after last night’s 7.5 earthquake here in NZ.

Mr D and Fiss and I, and his extended family (and, as far as I can tell, all of my friends) are safe, but rather shaken.  Our house is just fine, though every door in the house  (including those dratted kitchen cupboards) did slam open and shut for two minutes while the quake went on.

There has been a bit  of damage around Wellington, and a lot further south, where the epicentre was, and injuries and at least a couple of deaths.  It’s not good news.

Please keep NZ in your thoughts and prayers – the aftershocks have gone on all night, and there is still a tsunami watch, though it has been downgraded.

  1. Glad to hear you’re safe (and Miss Fiss didn’t freak out and run away). We’re lucky to get away with only a fallen bookshelf here (in the Hutt) but it was a sleepless night.

So glad you’re okay, but so saddened for New Zealand…

Thinking of you and your beautiful adopted country.

  3. I’m glad you and your friends weren’t hurt! Where I live, earthquakes are nearly nonexistent and very minor if they do happen; what you describe must have been terrifying.

I just saw the news about the quake, 7.5 is big! I’m so glad you and family and friends are ok! I will keep you and the rest of NZ in my prayers. Hope you aren’t having to do lots of clean up. The piles of stuff and broken glass after things fall out of cupboards and off shelves is no fun. 🙁

Whew! Good to hear that you guys are ok. That reminds me that I’ve been procrastinating on a donation for those in need. I’ll do that right now in solidarity with NZ

  11. I’m glad to know you’re okay, and thinking of everyone ‘across the pond’. No-one needs more unsettling right now!

I’m worried about those three cows stuck on the tuffet of land.

Prayers for everyone! I remember a few years ago we had a very small one, and that was scary enough.

  16. Glad to hear you are okay. I’ve been through a couple of biggies myself (San Fran)
It will be awhile for normal to get back to the hardest hit places, but normal does come back.
