The fireworks & flowers Armistice blouse

Remember back in January when I made the Folkwear #210 Armistice Blouse for Maggie? When I was done making it for myself I thought “Hmmm…that was quick and easy and cute, and I have extra of the floral voile I used for the front panel. I should make one for me”. So I cut one out, and got started on it, and then my schedule got overwhelmed with other sewing.  The mostly-done blouse languished on my UFO pile for six months, while I waited for an excuse to finish it.  Then the Sew Weekly ‘Red, White & Blue’ July 4th themed challenge came up, and I thought “Perfect!”.  The little blue pattern on the voile is probably supposed to be flowers, but it has always reminded me of fireworks. I didn’t end up finishing the blouse for the ‘Red, White & Blue’ challenge.  Instead I finished a waaaaaaay older UFO, and dolled up the blouse front with elaborate insertion work for the ‘Embellishement’ challenge. I love my capelet, so does Felicity

Remember my Capelet of Yay?  I wondered if it might turn out to be just a bit of fun, but I love that thing so much, and wear it all the time.  It’s the perfect mix of wrap, jacket and scarf.  It goes over my top as a warm indoor wrap, or over or under my coat as a scarf.  It’s super comfy and snuggly, but looks elegant and glamorous. Felicity loved it when I was making it.  She made it very hard for me to cut and sew!

The Reproduction jacket

This week’s theme on the Sew Weekly was ‘On Trend’ – sew something inspired by one of the catwalk trends for Summer-Autumn 2012. I may be a historical seamstress who loves vintage, but I’m actually quite enthusiastic about trends, and follow new design collections with interest.  Why?  There are so many different cuts and colours and fashions  that I love (Gold-yellow!  Paisley!  Greek keys!  Colour blocking!  Yokes!  1930s piecing! Laurel wreaths!  High waists!  Wide legged pants! Birds!  Small floral prints!  Petrol Blue! and…and…and…) that every season is sure to bring something that I adore, and then that item is easy to find and I can revel in it and stock up so that I can enjoy it till it comes around again. What I love, I love, and when everyone else loves it, I think that’s fantastic.  I’m like the anti-hipster (“I liked that before everyone else did, and now they all do and that’s sooooo wonderful!”) When the theme came up I knew exactly what I wanted to make.  One of my very favourite …
