Rate the Dress: Green and Black in 1928

Whew!  Wedding fever is over, and I’ve gotta tell you, I’m a little sick of white and lace and really sick of the news over-analyzing every single aspect of the royal wedding. So lets move away from weddings and fancy dresses and look at something fresh and new and spring-green-y (or, possibly, dowdy and old and grandma-print floral, depending on how you feel about it.) This week’s dress is a modest afternoon dress from 1928.  It’s an unusual colour combination, and a very typically non-body conscious 1920s cut, with touches like the pussy-bow collar which anticipate 1930s fashions. I’ve only ever presented one proper 1920s designs in my ‘Rate the Dress’, so I’m very interested to see how the decade fares in a wider scope. Rate the Dress on a scale of 1 to 10

Family wedding photos

Here are some random family wedding photos from Mr D’s maternal side.  Sadly, we don’t even know exactly who some of the brides and grooms are, or when the wedding was. This is probably the oldest.  They are a rather sad looking group aren’t they?  And we aren’t even sure it is a wedding photo – only the small bouquet carried by the seated woman and the posy in the standing woman’s belt hint at that.  The photo does reveal one dirty little family secret though.  See those trees in the background.  Yep.  Eucalyptus.  Some of Mr D’s ancestors came from Australia.  *wink* This photo is much more ‘bridal’, but the bride looks just as unhappy!  Poor thing!  Don’t you just love her huge sleeves though?  And the little boy lying awkwardly at the front of the group? I think that the man in the light suit is the same man as in the first photo (those ears rather give it away!) and the boy sitting in front of him may be the same boy …

Let’s dance!

The only thing wrong with my New Years is that it isn’t involving dancing.  I’m thinking Charleston. I want to be happier than this couple though.  More like this: That’s the spirit!  Happy New Years! I hope you all had a truly wonderful 2011.
