I’ve got a new Scroop Pattern ready to be tested! The Pattern: A timeless princess seamed dress with a deliciously swishy skirt that will make you feel like dancing every time you wear it. It features princess seams that skim the body, with pattern pieces for Small (A-B), Medium (C-D) & Full (DD/E+) busts, front buttons, and a flattering scooped neck. View A ends at mid calf and has flutter sleeves and inseam pockets. View B ends just below the knee, and has short sleeves and patch pockets. Mix and match sleeves and pockets for a variety of looks. The dress looks beautiful in light-midweight fabrics with good draping qualities in cottons, linens, rayon/viscose, wool, and synthetics. Suggested fabrics are rayon/viscose and cotton challis; rayon/viscose twills; tropical weight wools; lightweight wool crepe; soft linens in twill and plain weaves. If I did a 2018 sewing round up, or set myself sewing goals for 2019, I don’t remember it, and can’t find it. So 2019 was a blank slate: I got done what I got done. And that’s kind of nice. I’ve been trying to be less demanding of myself. I wish I could do all the things, all the time, and I tend to beat myself up mentally when I can’t. So for the last few years I’ve been trying to just be happy with what I do, and I think I’m getting there! And I did do pretty well! Three Scroop patterns out, including the incredible hydra of a pattern that is the Augusta Stays (seriously, the amount of stuff we included in that pattern…it’s really four patterns, and was certainly the work of four standard patterns). How it works: The HSM 2020 is a monthly historical garment challenge. Every month in 2020 will feature a themed challenge. Sew (or knit, or crochet, or tatt, or embroider, or milin, (or whatever it is you call making a hat), or otherwise create) a historical garment or accessory that fits the monthly theme. We’d love it if you did all 12 challenges, but how many you complete, and what order you do them in, is up to you. Push yourself and participate in all 12 challenges, do a half-marathon with 6, or just pick and choose the ones that fit your sewing schedule. Do them in order, or skip around doing the challenges as it fits your schedule.
