Portfolio: 1902 Ribbon corsets

My wild roses 1902 ribbon corset

The Idea and Inspiration:

Ribbon corsets were very popular in the early 20th century.  They were comfortable, light, easy to wear and (compared to other corsets), usually fairly cheap.

Norah Waugh has a ca. 1900 ribbon corset pattern in Corsets and Crinolines, and Jill Salen provides two ribbon corset patterns in Corsets: Historical Patterns and Techniques.  I used Salen’s 1902 pattern, but there isn’t a great deal of variation between the patterns.

Fabric and Materials:

Vintage cotton ribbon with woven in patterns of roses in pink and green trimmed with pink piping.  Metal bones.
