These are the pants that never end

I am very pleased to report that, after sharing my sewing plans  for my Art Deco Weekend wardrobe, I also managed to finish it all!  Not exactly in the form I’d originally planned, but in just as awesome, and just as elaborate a form. I’ll be doing a full weekend wrap-up post later this week, and sharing about the my sewing bits in individual posts.  To start the series off, here are my beach pyjama pants that never end: And, by never end, I mean that everything about them, from the hem width, to the crotch length, just goes on and on my friend: (and, I’m sorry, I know, that’s stuck in your head now, and it’s very evil of me.  However, I’ve had the stupid Charleston song that they always play at Art Deco Weekend stuck in my head for 5 hours now, and I’m at the point where the song that never ends is a preferable alternative!) The pants are made from an altered version of the Wearing History Chic Ahoy trousers.  The …

What I’m working on for Art Deco 2015

I haven’t been doing many sewing progress posts lately, because the hectic sewing schedules of Fortnightly challenges made them impractical. Project progress posts are one thing I’m hoping to get back into this year.  Along with progress!  And bigger projects. At the moment I’m working on a bigger project with lots of little parts: new stuff for Napier’s Art Deco Weekend.  Well, maybe.  I’ve gone for the last three years, but there is a lot going on right now and I’m not sure if I’m actually going this year.  I have to decide really soon, because I have a booking! Going or not, I’m still sewing Art Deco. I’ve taken over the dining room: What am I making?  More beach pyjamas, because they are the most comfortable outfit ever! I’m using Wearing History’s Chic Ahoy pattern  as a base  (she has an actual beach pajama pattern too, but I didn’t have any in-stash fabrics that match it). My inspiration is looks like this, with halter tops: And button front trousers: I prefer the beach pyjama …

The 1930s Bad Plaid Celebration Dress

Hurrah!  I have made it through the Historical Sew Fortnightly!  I’ve managed to make at least one item for all 26 challenges! Some were late, some took some time, but I did it! And here, of course, is my item for Challenge #26: Celebration: I’m calling it the ‘Bad Plaid’ dress, because the fabric is so awful it’s awesome, and because, well… I whinged about the pattern a lot as I sewed it up. The pattern is Decades of Style #3007: The 1930s Button Dress. Now, I’ll admit right away that half of the problems with the dress were my fault, at least in that I knew going in that the pattern wasn’t the most flattering style for my shape, and that I wasn’t using the best fabric for the pattern. I’m small busted, with a largish-rectangular ribcage, a sway back, and a full bottom.  I look great in empire waistlines, regular waistlines, and dropped waist – but the 1930s halfway-down-the-ribcage waistline?  Not my friend.  So that was the pattern problem. And this dress needs …
