A little bit of loveliness

I did a talk for a conference on Saturday and it was AMAZING. Afterwards, the models and I went out into the park next to the venue and had a photoshoot, which was soooo much fun. And then I went home, had some time with Mr D, had a nap, got up, and went dancing.  Perfect day. Anyway, here is a sneak peek of  images from the photoshoot.  I’ll be sharing more throughout the week, including individual model photoshoots, and as they come in from the various photographers cameras. The raspberry swirl gown got its first showing ever at this event, though I need to finish the bertha. There were four different cameras in use, so a great deal of interactions and formal and informal posing was captured. I mainly got formal, posed, images of single models, but I love the shots that other photographers got of groupings. In addition to the dresses I made, Madame O wore her sapphire dress, and we paired a vintage 1940s nightie from her collection with a vintage 30s …

Upcoming events: Pompeii to Paris and Pecha Kucha

I’m madly busy sewing and writing and researching for two upcoming events. The first I’ve already blogged about, it’s the Pompeii to Paris redux as part of the Blow Creative Arts Festival. Excitingly, it looks like it may be webcast live, but I don’t know the details of that yet.  I’ll keep you updated. The second is a bit more unusual (at least for me). I’m going to be presenting at Pecha Kucha. Some of you are thinking “oh, cool!”, but probably most of you are thinking “what the heck is Pecha Kucha?” Pecha Kucha is a relatively recent movement/presentation format that started in Japan.  A bunch of interesting people are invited to present, and each presentation consists of 20 slides which each last for 20 seconds, so the whole presentation is only 6 minutes and 40 seconds in length. This means that in one evening you get to be introduced to a dozen interesting ideas, and if some of them aren’t so interesting, well, at least they don’t last long. As a public speaker …

Flourish, polls and other bits and bobs

First off, if you check out the Events page, you will notice a new event (in addition to my Pompeii to Paris talk): Flourish. “To flourish is to grow, thrive and blossom. To flourish is to develop succeed and prosper. To flourish is to attract attention, make bold gestures, standout from the crowd.” The textile design students at Massey University have been creating gorgeous one-off silk scarves as a fundraiser for Downstage Theatre.  If you are lucky enough to be in Wellington you can visit an exhibition of the scarves  at Thistle Hall, and attend a fantastic evening at Downstage to bid on one of the fabulous scarves. And the scarves  are fabulous – I’ve been watching the students create them and drooling over the designs!  They have put hours and hours of work into the designs, and they can only get one true printing off of them. Second, you may have noticed my new poll function on the sidebar.  I’ll be running weekly lighthearted polls about textiles and fashion and pretty much anything and …
