It’s Halloweek!

As a costumer, Halloween is usually the highlight of the year – for once, you aren’t the only one dressed up! To celebrate, it’s Halloweek on the blog – everything will be about fancy dress, and costumes, and costume parties, and that sort of delicious fun. I love Halloween. Or at least I used to. It was great as a kid, when your costume was just about being fun, and clever. It’s not so fun when you are an adult and your costume is expected to be sexy, and all the parties have more alcohol than candy. And there isn’t much trick or treating in New Zealand. Trick or treating was fun and safe in the little community I grew up in – you knew all the people you visited, and all the other trick or treaters. Many years we didn’t go trick or treating – we had traditional Halloween parties with bobbing for apples and doughnuts on strings and caramel corn and skits and games. So much fun! Bromeliad pink bridesmaid dresses

Bromeliad pink is one of my favourite colours. It is also a colour that looks beautiful amidst the lush greenery of Hawaii. Not surprisingly, when Mr Dreamy and I picked a wedding location set in tropical gardens on the slopes of a mountain in Hawaii, bromeliad pink was one of the first colours I thought of for the bridesmaids. Unfortunately, I said “Pink” and two of my four bridesmaids said “Ewwww….no….” The other two bridesmaids were very obliging and said “Oooh, pink!” and “It’s your wedding, I’ll wear whatever you want me to” respectively. Being the sweet, accommodating person that I am (only slight sarcasm intended), I offered the two recalcitrant bridesmaids green, which they agreed would be much preferable. And then of course I went out and bought lots of bromeliad pink chiffon (which I loved) and muted jade green chiffon (which was OK), and showed both fabrics to the bridesmaids, and the recalcitrant ones said “Oh….that colour pink! I love the colours of the natural world. They are so amazing, so vivid, and come in such unexpected, unusual combinations. Bromeliad pink may be one of my favourite colours ever.
