Better than steampunk

Seriously. This is pure awesome. Better than ‘swords into plowshares’. It’s pistols into pretty! Could you imagine what you would wear with this tea party? I’m envisioning a sort of futuristic pastel take on the 1760s. Madame de Pompador with quilted bullet-proof vests. These pieces of pretty are the work of artist Yvonne Lee Schultz.  What shall we call them?  Porcelain-punk?

Spring flowers prettiness

My house and yard are awash in spring flowers.  There are pots of anemones beside the front door, and tulips and freesias lining the walk.  Last year’s tulip and freesia bulbs are blooming beneath the camilla bush, dotted with tall irises in deepest violet and cream and gold. The colours are amazing: saturated fuchsia and pinks, bright oranges, palest lemon yellows, pollen, golden yellow and inky black, flowers in brick red with ochre throats and lavender stamens. I want to capture them all, to replicate them in fabrics and revel in their vividness.

Great-Nana’s hats: The white turban

This hat cracks me up.  It’s hilarious, and at the same time, it is very elegant. It feel like the confused love child of a wazir and a nurse with head trauma. It can dispense the wisdom of the east along with your prescriptions. Just don’t expect it to provide sound advice or the right medicine. In case you hadn’t noticed, I learned how to make the camera take self-timed pictures, and went a little wild with the technique.
